What a nice surprise for my first morning at the new place! George is a pretty insidious guy - he even had me trying to ferret out info with some nasty types. Gotta love dreamtime.

Those are good guesses. Your timing isn't quite right though. The end result of George's actions was to result (unexpectedly) in the rise of Gorbachev and (even more unexpectedly) the collapse of Communism in Russia. But that wasn't what George and the monks at Shangri-la were trying to do. It's just what happened.

I'm wondering what that was. 1984--the first thing that comes to mind is Ronald Reagan. Maybe Michail Gorbachav (sp?). Maybe the end of the Cold War?

As I was reading, I was wondering if you had ever read Taylor Caldwell's The Captains and the Kings? If not, I think you should read it. I'm sure you'd enjoy it. It was years ago I read it, but I thought it was a fantastic book. It kept me thinking for months and years afterward.
